SCION Coffee House & Library

Scion is a coffee house made to be a space of retreat within its midtown neighborhood. Operating as both a cutting-edge coffee shop and used-book library, the shop’s interior accommodates both study and relaxation through homey, dark stained wood, comfortable seating arrangements, and low light in the evening hours.

Beyond the sounds of Vancouver Sleep Clinic and Ben Howard playing for those enjoying the storefront seating, a secret door reveals floor to ceiling bookshelves descending to the back of the shop to create more intimate spaces for undisturbed reading or conversation.

To drive the menu, the shop staff picks a book of the month and creates a drink inspired by the book.
For George Orwell’s classic 1984 they made “victory gin,” an espresso tonic lightly flavored with Anjou pear and juniper. And for Dune: Messiah, an aromatic cardamom/pink pepper dirty chai.

On the days the shop is closed, the space is used to host free ESL classes and workshops for immigrants and refugees in the area.
